Power substation and railway applications have strict requirements for network equipment. Besides resistance to electrical disturbances and power outages, the network equipment must be robust enough to overcome harsh ambient conditions. In addition, increased adoption of IP surveillance systems in these applications has spurred demand for real-time transmission of huge amount of video data; therefore, faster and higher-performance switches have become a necessity. Now customers’ needs for higher security, management efficiency, and reliability can all be met with ORing’sRGS-PR9000-A industrial Ethernet switch as it features Layer 3 functions, Gigabit speed, optical fiber support, and compliance with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards for power substation and railway markets.

Layer 3 plays a key role in achieving higher security and management efficiency as the technology forwards packages and traffic to the destination intelligently based on IP addresses. As ORing’s first switch to support OSPF and PIM routing protocols, RGS-PR9000-A is a perfect fit for complex system architectures consisting of different domains or different VLANs. It will find the best path for packets as they pass through a set of connected networks and to ensure fast delivery of data in the shortest time. In addition, the device can learn of changes in a routing table or detect changes in the network immediately, hence saving a lot of time and effort during scale up. The Layer 3 support endows the switch with hardware-based fast forwarding, hence improving network performance and resiliency while enabling flexible network design and greater control of network traffic.

Considering the need for high bandwidth capacity, the device is equipped with 4 slots which support up to 24 1Gband 810Gb Ethernet ports in copper or fiber interfaces. Users can insert 1G or 10G modules based on their requirements and the working environments to deliver unprecedented bandwidth at an affordable cost. The high port density makes it ideal for large-scale deployments while providing high-performance aggregative connectivity. The versatile copper/fiber combinations guarantee long distance data communications in a cost-effective way between the core layer and the edge layer of your network.

With the highest network availability in mind, the RGS-PR9000-A supports a variety of redundancy technologies to enable fast fault recovery. Besides standard MSTP, STP, and RSTP protocols, the switches also support ORing’s proprietary O-Ring self-healing technology. Furthermore, the wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C (for 10G SFP module, the operating temperature range is -20°C ~ 60°C) to enable the switches to work reliably in substation environments where temperature changes are extreme.

The ORing guidebook, contains brief product overviews and technologies, is a beneficial tool by which users learn how to optimize their applications to meet their goals. In the newly reedited version of ORing product guidebook, the updated information and resources of vertical market applications, certifications, technologies, and functions of new products are collected to provide users more comprehensive understanding of industrial network solutions.

The key additional contents of ORing guidebook:
  • IRIS: ORing has been IRIS certified since 2015. International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification not only stands for topnotch quality, but also helps ORing partners save time and costs since they can directly use ORing’s solutions to achieve higher safety, cost-effectiveness and quality of their railway appliances without undergoing additional qualifications.
  • Mountain Surveillance: Mountainous areas are prone to landslides which pose serious threats to people’s life. New ORing guidebook instructs you how ORing’s products ensure reliable data transmission of IP surveillance system for mountains areas.
  • TTDP: Train Topology Discovery Protocol (TTDP) is developed to enable network switches to negotiate automatically with other network devices. New ORing guidebook guides you how TTDP enhances the efficiency of railway network reconfiguration.
  • Load balance: New ORing guidebook instructs you that load balancing distributes traffic across multiple broadband connections such as multiple 3G/4G links when a single resource is overloaded to enhance the scalability and availability of mission critical, IP-based services.
  • OCS-815: New ORing guidebook informs you that OCS-815, a cloud server, is a router-based network appliance integrated with management features such as VPN server and device topology view.

Power substation and railway applications have strict requirements for network equipment. Besides resistance to electrical disturbances and power outages, the network equipment must be robust enough to overcome harsh ambient conditions. ORing has thus released a series of industrial Ethernet switches compliant with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards for power substation and railway markets. The IGS-P9000 series, which consists of four models featuring unique characteristics, are able to cater to customers’ various needs in different environments.

The four models, known as the IGS-P9812GP, IGS-P9164GF, IGS-P9164GFX, and IGS-P9164GC, provide a high port density, making them ideal for large-scale deployments. The provisioning of 8 to 16 Gigabit copper ports, depending on the switches installed, makes fast transmission of large volumes of traffic across a network possible.

With fiber-optic connections via SC connectors or S
FP transceivers, the switches provide high-performance aggregative connectivity for bandwidth-hungry applications such as multimedia content and videos. The versatile copper/fiber combinations guarantee long distance data communications in a cost-effective way between the core layer and the edge layer of your network.

The series also supports ORing's device backup unit DBU-01 which allows users to back up or restore device settings easily via the console port. All settings of the switches can be stored or restored to previous conditions within seconds, significantly simplifying the configuration of large network layouts.

With the highest network availability in mind, the IGS-P9000 series supports a variety of redundancy technologies to enable fast fault recovery. Besidesstandard MSTP, STP, and RSTP protocols, the switches also support ORing’s proprietary O-Ring self-healing technology. Furthermore, the wide operating temperature range from 75°C to -40°C enable the switches to work reliably in substation environments where temperature changes are extreme.

“Rolling stock and power substation are ORing’s key markets in 2015,” said ORing CEO Angus Shih. “With the launch of the IGS-P9000 series, we are reinforcing our commitment to fulfill customers’ needs for more robust and efficient solutions.”
